Giannis Lands in Miami: Heat Bet on Defense to Fix a Broken Offense
Antetokounmpo and Adebayo make Miami the Southeast favorite at +160, but with Klay at 36 and no second creator, the offense is a live question.

Miami reshaped its ceiling in one move: Giannis Antetokounmpo is now a Heat, headlining a roster built around him and Bam Adebayo. Antetokounmpo put up 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists in just 36 games last season (2025-26), good for 49.1 fantasy points per game and our No. 5 overall ranking. Pair that with Adebayo's 20.1/10/3.2 line and 41 FPTS/G, and Miami has two top-30 fantasy assets anchoring the frontcourt.
That's the good news. The rest is a patch job. Miami let Norman Powell — its lone All-Star last year — walk to Chicago, then filled the gaps with veterans on minimums: Tim Hardaway Jr. (one year, $6M), Klay Thompson after his Dallas buyout, and Nick Richards for size. This follows a 127-126 overtime play-in loss to Charlotte that ended Miami's season and marked its first missed postseason since 2019.
The Offense Is the Problem
Defensively, this projects fine — Antetokounmpo and Adebayo will erase a lot of the 118.5 points per game Miami surrendered last season, the worst mark among the division's contenders. The concern is shot creation. Davion Mitchell is the nominal point guard, Thompson is 36, Hardaway is 34, and once you get past Giannis there's almost nobody who can generate a bucket from nothing.
Erik Spoelstra will likely stagger his two stars so one is always at the five, with Portis holding down the rest of the center minutes. Miami is still thin on size — that's why Richards is here, and it may not be the last addition, with one roster spot open and camp weeks away. A deadline move for a creator feels inevitable.
The Fantasy Fallout
For fantasy, Adebayo is the clean buy. The Giannis pairing means Bam sees consistent center minutes without absorbing a usage hit that tanks his value — his rebounding, assists and defensive counting stats are locked in. Giannis stays a first-round anchor, though his 36-game sample and slight recent dip (-2.3 FPTS/G over his last five, 2025-26) are worth monitoring for load management.
Temper expectations on the vets. Thompson graded out at just 17.8 FPTS/G last season (2025-26), our No. 245 overall, and a crowded, defense-first roster won't lift that. Mitchell (24.4 FPTS/G, No. 148) is the sneaky deep-league name — his assist volume plays up next to Giannis, and he's trending up (+4.4 FPTS/G last five). Draft Bam with confidence, grab Giannis where he falls, and treat everyone else as streaming depth until the rotation settles.
