Luka Doncic

Our #2 overall player just hung 52 — he's a locked-in anchor every night.

Key numbers
  • 52 points, 8-of-18 from three (44.4%) vs. Utah
  • 39 of those 52 came in the first three quarters
  • Fastest Laker to 3,000 points: 95 games
  • Beat Kareem (109) and Mikan (106) to the mark
  • Our #2 overall, #1 at guard entering the season

Luka Doncic poured in 52 points and drained eight threes to drag the Lakers back from an 18-point first-half deficit and past the Jazz. He had 39 of those through three quarters, then slammed the door with a stepback triple to end the third that put L.A. up 103-100. By the final buzzer, Doncic had also rewritten the franchise record book.

The 52-point night made Doncic the fastest Laker ever to reach 3,000 career points, hitting the mark in just 95 games. That's faster than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (109) and George Mikan (106) — not bad company for a guy still early in his Lakers tenure. He's our No. 2 overall player this season and the No. 1 guard, and this is exactly the ceiling that ranking is built on.

The turning point was pure Luka. He stole the ball from Jazz sophomore Ace Bailey under Utah's own basket, walked it up, got Bailey to slip with a shake move, and buried the three. Austin Reaves summed it up afterward, saying Doncic was incredible with both his shot-making and his playmaking.

The Fantasy Read

Through two games this season (2026-27), Doncic is averaging 25.5 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for 41.9 fantasy points per game. The counting-stat floor plus this kind of scoring volume makes him a weekly set-and-forget. Nights like this — 52 and eight threes — are the reason you spend a top-two pick on him.

Reaves is quietly thriving next to him, posting 25.5 points and 7.5 assists for 42.9 fantasy points per game across the same two-game sample (2026-27). He's our No. 29 overall player and worth buying if anyone in your league is skeptical about his usage alongside Luka.

On the other side, Ace Bailey is the cautionary tale. The Jazz sophomore is our No. 120 overall, averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds for 23.5 fantasy points per game this season (2026-27). Getting picked clean by Luka won't help his confidence, and he's a deep-league stash at best right now. Start Doncic, buy Reaves, leave Bailey on waivers in standard formats.
