Wizards Land Tre Mann, Ship Cam Whitmore to Cleveland in Deal
Washington adds a depth guard owed $8M for 2026-27, sends out Whitmore's $5.5M and buries Cam even deeper on the fantasy radar.

The Wizards have swapped out one reclamation project for another, acquiring 25-year-old guard Tre Mann and shipping forward Cam Whitmore to the Cavaliers in a multi-team deal. Mann averaged 5.5 points on 32.3% shooting from deep with Charlotte last season (2025-26) and carries an $8 million salary for 2026-27, followed by an $8M team option for 2027-28.
Money-wise, Washington is taking on more than it's sending out. Whitmore's $5.5 million salary goes to Cleveland while Mann's $8 million comes back, adding $2.5 million to the Wizards' cap sheet. Even after that, Washington sits $8.4 million under the luxury tax with one roster spot still to fill and an open two-way slot after moving Julian Reese to Denver, who is expected to waive him.
There's a familiar thread here: GM Will Dawkins was in the Thunder front office when Oklahoma City drafted Mann 18th overall in 2021. Now he's betting on the guard again, this time as insurance behind Trae Young, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington. That's a lot of bodies in front of Mann, which tells you exactly where his fantasy value sits.
The Reese Wrinkle
Reese was only in this deal because of the NBA's "touch rule" — in a trade of three-plus teams, every team has to touch at least two others. He was a genuine bright spot in a small sample, going for 26 points and 17 rebounds against Utah and posting 11.8 points, 10.5 rebounds per game across 13 appearances last season (2025-26) for a healthy 30.6 fantasy points per game. Under the current CBA, though, Washington can't re-sign him for the foreseeable future once he's waived, so that's a genuine loss of a productive deep-league flyer.
The Fantasy Fallout
For Whitmore, this trade doesn't change much — and that's the problem. He missed most of last season with deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder, appeared in only 21 games, and managed 9.2 points on 16 fantasy points per game (2025-26), landing him at our rank #279. A move to a deeper Cleveland roster doesn't clear a runway; if anything, it clouds it further.
Bottom line: Mann is a non-factor in standard leagues behind a stacked Washington backcourt, and Whitmore is a drop in all but the deepest dynasty formats until we see minutes. The player worth watching remains Carrington, who's up +5.6 fantasy points over his last five versus his season average and quietly rates as our #84 guard. Everyone else here is a wait-and-see at best.
