Mark Williams went under the knife Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, and the timeline is brutal for Suns fantasy managers. There's no official return date, but the most connected Phoenix reporters are pointing to at least five months, which lines up with an All-Star break comeback at the absolute earliest. That's more than half the season gone.
For a guy who finally stayed healthy, this is a gut punch. Williams played 60 games for Phoenix in 2025-26 — a career high — averaging 11.7 points and 8 rebounds while anchoring the paint. That production landed him at 27.1 fantasy points per game last season, our No. 23 center. Now he's a stash-and-forget name for the first several months.
The Injury Context
The health scare isn't new for Williams. Across his first three years in Charlotte he never topped 44 games in a season, cycling through foot, ankle, thumb and back issues. Last year felt like the turn. This labrum tear resets that narrative and pushes his return into February at the soonest.
Who Cashes In
The obvious beneficiary is second-year center Khaman Maluach. He flashed at Summer League with 19.5 points and 12.8 rebounds over four games, and now the runway is clear. His 2025-26 line was thin — 3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 46 games for 8.5 fantasy points per game — but he's trending up, averaging +8 fantasy points over his last five versus his season mark. Sitting at our No. 56 center, he's the priority add here.
Don't sleep on Oso Ighodaro either. The third-year big played all 82 games in 2025-26, chipping in 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists for 19.7 fantasy points per game. He's our No. 75 center, but a bigger frontcourt role could nudge that number up in deeper formats.
Fantasy verdict: Drop Williams to your bench or IL slot if you can afford the roster spot — he's not helping you until February, if then. The active move is grabbing Maluach off waivers now, before the counting stats catch up to the opportunity. Ighodaro is a fine speculative add in 14-team and deeper leagues, but Maluach carries the higher ceiling with Phoenix's paint suddenly wide open.
