Minnesota has spent five years auditioning point guards next to Anthony Edwards, and the fanbase has finally exhaled. LaMelo Ball is the guy — the ball-handling, playmaking answer the Wolves have been chasing since Mike Conley's decline. Edwards put up 28.8 points, 5 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 61 games last year (2025-26), good for 44.1 fantasy points per contest and our No. 15 overall rank. The question was never his scoring; it was who feeds him.
Vegas already likes the fit. Minnesota sits at +1500 to win the West — fourth-best odds in the conference — and +3000 to capture its first title. That's a real bet on Ball fixing the one thing this roster couldn't fix internally: creation off the bounce.
The Guard Graveyard
The list of failed experiments is long. D'Angelo Russell flamed out. Nickeil Alexander-Walker was a great story but never a lead guard. If the Wolves can slot him in without sacrificing the defensive identity Rudy Gobert anchors, they jump back into contention after a conference finals run in 2024-25 and last year's collapse.
Why This Season Matters
There's no reset button here. Minnesota has exhausted its picks and movable contracts building around a 2020-drafted trio. This is the year the front office needs the Edwards era to leap from good to dangerous — and Ball is the swing piece that makes or breaks that ceiling.
