Justin Champagnie's Foot Fracture Guts Washington's Best Early Surprise
The Wizards wing fractured his right foot Monday and may not return until the Feb. 19-24 All-Star break. Here's the roster math.

Foot fracture could cost him until the Feb. All-Star break.
- Fractured right foot Monday vs. Charlotte
- Wizards hope for a return by Feb. 19-24 break
- 21.3 fantasy pts/game in 4 games (2026-27)
- Washington was +36 with him, -30 without
- Posted 11 pts, 14 reb vs. Bulls this year
Washington's most pleasant early-season surprise just hit the shelf. Justin Champagnie fractured his right foot late in the first quarter of Monday's 110-103 loss to Charlotte, and the Wizards have ruled him out indefinitely. The club is hopeful he can return by the All-Star break, which runs Feb. 19-24, 2027 — meaning you could be looking at roughly four months without him.
That's a real blow for a player who was quietly carrying a load. Champagnie averaged 7.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists across four games this year (2026-27), good for 21.3 fantasy points per game and a spot inside our top-65 at the position. The on/off splits were even louder: Washington was a staggering +36 with him on the floor through three games and a -30 without him, including an 11-point, 14-rebound, +18 line in the win over the Bulls.
The 6-foot-7 wing tried to gut it out. He intentionally fouled to stop play, then hobbled to the bench where Khris Middleton and a staffer helped him back to the locker room. His body made the decision his competitiveness wouldn't.
The Timeline Comparison
Foot fractures for forwards don't follow one script, but recent cases frame the range. Pacers forward Obi Toppin fractured his right foot on Oct. 31 last season, had surgery, and didn't return until Feb. 26. Former Laker Maxi Kleber broke his foot on Jan. 25, 2025 and came back April 30 — 95 days later. An All-Star-break target fits squarely in that window.
Trae Young, for his part, struck the right notes, saying the team will support Champagnie through his recovery and hold things down while he's out. Fine sentiment, but Young (22.3 points, 11 assists, 42.3 fantasy points per game in four games this year) now shoulders even more of the offensive burden on a thin roster.
The Fantasy Fallout
For redraft managers, this is a clean DROP. Champagnie was a fringe streamer with a slick early sample, but a multi-month absence with a non-guaranteed return date isn't worth a roster spot in most formats. Stash him in deep dynasty leagues with IR slots only. As for the minutes left behind — Washington's wing rotation suddenly has openings, and Middleton (5.8 fantasy points per game this year) isn't filling them in any meaningful fantasy way. Monitor the Wizards' next lineup for a waiver-wire beneficiary, but don't expect Champagnie back before February.
