Jaylen Brown questionable for Sixers-Knicks Cup opener; Embiid, LeBron good to go
Brown (left knee soreness) is the only Philly starter on the report, but Joel Embiid and LeBron James both avoided it for the Prime-televised Cup clash.

Knee soreness is day-to-day; check the active list before lock.
- Brown questionable, left knee soreness
- Embiid, LeBron NOT on the injury report
- Brown: 37.9 FPTS/G, 4 GP (2026-27)
- Embiid: 44.9 FPTS/G, 3 GP (2026-27)
- Game airs on Prime — Cup night one
Philadelphia dropped the injury report for the opening leg of its second back-to-back, and there's one name that'll make managers nervous: Jaylen Brown is questionable with left knee soreness. He's the only Sixers starter listed. The good news tucked underneath it is that Joel Embiid and LeBron James both avoided the report entirely, so the defending champion Knicks get the full-strength version of Philly's frontcourt in this NBA Cup rematch.
Brown's knee issue came out of nowhere — there was no obvious moment in the win over Indiana where he picked up a knock. He logged just 34 minutes, which stands out given he's fourth in the league in minutes this season. For a player posting 37.9 fantasy points per game across his first four games this year (2026-27) as our No. 10 overall ranked player, that limited run is worth a second look.
Why Embiid and LeBron Are Suiting Up
This is a shift from how the Sixers managed their first set of consecutive games, when they split Embiid and James across the two nights. The difference is the stage: this Knicks matchup is on Prime, which triggers the league's player participation policy for All-Stars. Having already crossed that line once, Philadelphia isn't looking to rack up more infractions. It's also the first night of the Cup — an event the Sixers have failed to escape group play in all three prior seasons.
The flip side is a potential rest spot the next night. Loading up both stars for the tougher New York opponent means Embiid and James could both sit the back half of the weekend at Charlotte. Embiid is averaging a monster 44.9 fantasy points per game over three appearances this season (2026-27) as our No. 11 overall and No. 2 center, so a missed Hornets game would sting lineups badly.
The depth chart behind them is thin. Dominick Barlow remains out with a spine injury and is roughly a week from reevaluation — a blow given he posted 19.3 fantasy points per game across 71 games last season (2025-26). Jabari Walker is out with what's now labeled left patellar tendinopathy after tweaking the knee on Oct. 24, and he's been a non-factor at 6.2 fantasy points per game over three games this year (2026-27). Tacko Fall is still sidelined with a quad injury, though Nick Nurse says he's getting closer.
Fantasy call: don't drop Brown over one questionable tag, but treat him as a WATCH and confirm he's active before lock — a game-time scratch on a knee is the kind of thing that torches a lineup. Embiid and LeBron are must-starts tonight, but flag the Charlotte back-to-back as a possible rest night and plan your weekend streamers accordingly. Barlow is a stash-worthy hold if you've got the bench room; Walker is roster filler at best right now.
