Key numbers
  • 22.6 pts, 9.2 reb, 4 ast in 5 games (2026-27)
  • 40.8 fantasy pts/game as a rookie (2026-27)
  • Only he and Larry Bird hit 100/40/20 in first 5 games
  • Leads Warriors in minutes despite 18 TOs in last 4
  • No. 11 overall pick, still unranked in our model

Yaxel Lendeborg picked a fight with Luka Dončić in his first NBA game, called him soft, and then went out and made the whole thing look like a warm-up. Through five games, the No. 11 overall pick is averaging 22.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists while posting 40.8 fantasy points per game (2026-27 actuals) — numbers that put him right next to Stephen Curry on the Golden State value chart.

This isn't small-sample noise dressed up as a storyline. Lendeborg is the first Warriors rookie since Curry himself to drop 25-plus in three straight games, and he joins Larry Bird as the only players in history with at least 100 points, 40 rebounds and 20 assists over their first five career games. Bird. That's the comp. That's the list.

Why the Role Is Real

The production matters, but the opportunity matters more for fantasy. Lendeborg is leading the entire Warriors roster in minutes, and he's doing it while committing 18 turnovers across his last four games. Steve Kerr and Curry both publicly endorsed the rookie's brashness as long as he backed it up — and now they're letting him play through the sloppy stuff instead of yanking him for it.

That green light is the key. Kerr has flagged his weak-side defense, his tendency to force plays, and his habit of launching into shot-blockers instead of using a pump fake or euro step. Those are developmental notes, not benchings. A 23-year-old rookie who spent six years in college and grinded through junior college has the maturity to absorb the coaching, and Golden State clearly wants him creating, not deferring.

The Kuminga Contrast

Compare that to Jonathan Kuminga, now in Minnesota and buried at our rank of #131 (#48 at his position), averaging 13.2 points and 30.9 fantasy points per game (2026-27). Kuminga never got this kind of leash in Golden State, and he never showed the passing, rebounding and off-ball feel Lendeborg already has. The Warriors learned their lesson — they're building around the rookie, not restraining him.

The fantasy move is obvious: add Lendeborg everywhere he's still available. He's unranked in our model simply because the sample is tiny, but 40.8 fantasy points a night with a locked-in minutes role doesn't stay unowned for long. Expect turnovers and cold shooting nights as the league adjusts, so temper the week-to-week expectations — but on upside, role and usage, he's a must-roster stash that's already producing like a top-60 asset. Grab him before the box scores do the talking for you.
