Portland guard Shaedon Sharpe tore his meniscus and is looking at a six-month absence, per a report from ESPN's Shams Charania. If that timeline holds, the 23-year-old won't be back until around the All-Star break in February — meaning he misses the bulk of the season before he ever gets going.
It's a brutal blow for a player who was already fighting to prove he belongs in a big role. Sharpe was limited to 50 games last season by a stress fracture in his left fibula, and when he did suit up he averaged 20.8 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting just 33.7% from three. Now the first year of his fresh four-year, $90 million contract effectively evaporates before Christmas.
The athleticism has never been the question. Sharpe is one of the most explosive leapers in the league and his dunk reel speaks for itself. The problem has always been efficiency — coaches haven't fully trusted him in heavy minutes, and a full offseason of missed reps won't help that case.
What It Means for Portland
Here's the twist: Portland might barely feel it. This backcourt is absurdly deep, with Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Ja Morant and Scoot Henderson all competing for guard minutes. Deni Avdija can keep operating as a point-forward, and honestly Sharpe's absence just clears the touch logjam.
That depth is good for the Blazers and bad for anyone hoping the next-man-up gets a monster bump. Avdija is the safest bet — he posted 24.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists across 66 games in 2025-26 (actual) for 42.9 fantasy points per game, and he's trending up with +6.1 over his last five. Lillard sits at our rank #18 off a 42.6 FPTS/G actual mark in 2024-25, while Morant (35.9 FPTS/G actual, 2025-26) is riding a hot +7.6 five-game stretch.
For fantasy managers: drop Sharpe or don't draft him at all. A six-month recovery pointing to a February return isn't worth a bench stash in standard leagues, and even a healthy comeback lands him in a crowded rotation. If you want Portland exposure, target Avdija as a top-20 anchor and treat Sharpe as a deep-league dynasty flier only.
