Payton Pritchard

Career-high usage and a secure role make him underpriced at rank #89.

Key numbers
  • 2 years, $44.2M with 2029-30 mutual option
  • Career highs last season: 17.0 pts, 5.2 ast, 3.9 reb
  • Our rank #89 overall, #44 among guards
  • 30.5 fantasy pts/game in 2025-26 (actual)
  • Started 50 of 79 games last season

Payton Pritchard just cashed in. The reigning 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million extension with the Celtics that includes a mutual option on the 2029-30 season, per reports. Pritchard kept it low-key himself, posting a short message to Instagram on Tuesday — and drawing a three-money-bag reply from Jayson Tatum.

The money follows the production. With Tatum sidelined for most of last season, Pritchard stepped into a featured scoring role and posted career highs across the board: 17.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game over 79 appearances in 2025-26. That translated to 30.5 fantasy points per game, good enough to sit at #89 in our rankings and #44 among guards.

A New Boston Pecking Order

This is a different Celtics team than the one Pritchard grew up in. Jaylen Brown is gone, shipped to Philadelphia, and Paul George is being folded into the rotation. George put up 13 points on 3-of-10 shooting against his former team in the preseason, and his 2025-26 line of 17.3 points and 33.7 fantasy points per game (actual) came in just 37 games — hardly a lock to crowd Pritchard's touches given the injury history.

The role question matters for fantasy. Pritchard started 50 games last year but looks set to slide back to sixth-man duty. Don't let that scare you. In Saturday's preseason dress rehearsal against the Sixers, he came off the bench and still led Boston with 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting. In this offense, he's a closer because of his shooting, and closers get the fourth-quarter volume.

The Fantasy Fallout

The real swing factor is Tatum. He played just 16 games in 2025-26 and remains unranked on our board, which means Pritchard's elevated usage could carry over if the star forward's workload ramps slowly. Every game Tatum sits is a game Pritchard pushes back toward that 17-plus points, 5-plus assists ceiling.

Bottom line: buy low. A #89 overall tag on a player with a locked-in long-term role, career-high counting stats and a clear path to volume is a value, not a warning. Draft him as your guard depth, and if Tatum's minutes stay capped early, Pritchard's a weekly starter in deeper formats.
