NaLyssa Smith Out for Season, Leaving a Hole in the Aces Frontcourt
The Aces starter went down with a non-contact injury while leading the WNBA in field goal percentage at 63.8%. Here's who absorbs the minutes.

First in line for Smith's vacated starting frontcourt minutes.
- Smith out for season after non-contact injury Aug. 23
- Led WNBA in FG% at 63.8% this season (2026)
- Averaged 11.8 PTS, 6.4 REB over 37 games in 2026
- Aces sit 26-13, third in the West
- Was 4-of-4 shooting when she exited vs. Toronto
NaLyssa Smith is done for the 2026 season. The Aces starting forward suffered a non-contact injury during Las Vegas's 88-78 win over the Toronto Tempo on Sunday, Aug. 23, exiting at the 3:15 mark of the third quarter. She hasn't been seen since — she missed Thursday's practice, and coach Becky Hammon sidestepped questions about her status.
The timing stings because Smith was playing the best basketball of her career. She was averaging 11.8 points and 6.4 rebounds across 37 games this season while leading the entire league in field goal percentage at 63.8%. When she went down against Toronto, she was a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor. The team hasn't shared a diagnosis or a treatment plan.
For context, this is the 2022 No. 2 overall pick out of Baylor, who landed in Las Vegas last June after Dallas dealt her for a 2027 first-round pick. She'd turned into exactly the efficient interior scorer the Aces hoped for — and now she's off the board with the roster heading into the FIBA World Cup break.
What It Means On the Floor
The obvious ripple: more weight lands on A'ja Wilson. She's already carrying the offense, favored to win an unprecedented fifth MVP while putting up 26 points, nine rebounds and two blocks a night this season. Losing your most efficient complementary big means Wilson's usage — already sky-high — probably climbs further.
Las Vegas isn't desperate for wins, at least. The Aces enter Thursday at 26-13, third-best in the Western Conference behind the Minnesota Lynx (31-8) and Golden State Valkyries (27-11). But depth up front just got thin, and they've got a rematch with Toronto on Friday before the break.
Cheyenne Parker-Tyus is the natural fit to slide into the starting five. The veteran forward recently returned from a 10-game absence tied to a concussion, so she's fresh — if not fully ramped up. Behind her, the Aces can lean on reserves Brianna Turner and Justine Pissott to fill out the rotation.
The Fantasy Fallout
Smith managers, there's no soft landing here — she's out for the year, so cut her loose in any redraft or season-long format. The 63.8% shooting was a genuine cheat code for efficiency builds, but you can't roster a body that won't play again in 2026.
The clearest winner is Parker-Tyus. If she draws the start, she inherits real frontcourt minutes and a role next to Wilson, which makes her a priority add off the wire — especially in deeper leagues. Turner is the secondary target if you need blocks and boards on the cheap; Pissott is more of a stash than an immediate contributor.
Wilson owners should feel nothing but good. Her touches were never in question, but Smith's absence removes another mouth to feed inside and only strengthens the case for her as your build-around anchor down the stretch.
Bottom line: drop Smith, grab Parker-Tyus before your leaguemates connect the dots, and keep an eye on the Friday rematch with Toronto to see how Hammon reshuffles the lineup. The first game post-injury usually tells you everything about the new pecking order.
