LeBron James Doubles Down on Golf With PGA Tour Event for 2027
The 41-year-old is launching a pro-am at Firestone on July 6-7, 2027. Here's what his post-hoop pivot means for his 2026-27 fantasy value.

LeBron James is putting his name on a golf tournament. The 41-year-old and the PGA Tour announced the LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational, a pro-am set for July 6-7, 2027 at Firestone Country Club in Akron. The event pairs pros, amateurs and celebrities with off-course mentorship between James' I Promise students and players from the Tour's Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program.
James picked up the game last year in Los Angeles and hasn't looked back — he launched a golf YouTube channel to chronicle the whole thing. He said golf has become a genuine passion and that he's seen the game open doors and build relationships, which is why he wants to introduce it to kids who might never get the chance. For fantasy purposes, though, the number that matters is 41.4 fantasy points per game last season (2025-26), which kept him inside our top 25.
There's a fantasy subtext here that nobody's saying out loud. James signed a two-year deal with the 76ers this summer, and his agent Rich Paul floated that he could play anywhere from one to four more seasons. Meanwhile, LeBron is building a post-basketball infrastructure — golf, a rumored Las Vegas ownership stake, a mountain of business deals. The runway is getting shorter.

Don't confuse a new hobby with a decline. James posted 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists across 60 games last season (2025-26), and over his final five outings he was running +7.9 fantasy points above his season average. That's a player still very much engaged when the ball is in his hands. Our 2026-27 model has him at #23 overall and #9 among forwards — elite production for a player his age.
The wrinkle is the move to Philadelphia. A new roster means a new usage split, and at 41 the games-played question is always live — he sat out 22 last season. Golf isn't going to cost you fantasy points in the winter, but the calendar might. Load management is the real threat, not a five-iron.
